Multisyllabic words
Once a reader knows the syllable types, long words stop being long words and become several short ones. “Fantastic” is “fan-tas-tic”, three closed syllables, none of which is harder than a CVC word.
The skill being taught is division, not the words themselves. A reader who can find the vowels and split between them can attack a word nobody has pre-taught.
